This unassuming little cartoon will always be special to me. It was the very first Candace ‘n’ Company strip to be published, appearing in the September 13, 2011 edition of what was then known as the Zenith City (Semi)Weekly Newspaper in Duluth, Minnesota (U.S.A.). I’ll always remember the moment I very carefully peeked within the pages, only to see that I finally got something in print!
Once I heard such a mouse trap go off behind a hatch to the roof in my parent's house. I opened the hatch and saw the trap. The mouse was still alive! It was frantically struggling under the wire that hit its back. I took the trap, lifted the wire a bit and carried the mouse out into the garden, not realizing how badly it was injured. It kept struggling for about a minute, then stopped moving :-(
These things kill mice, but not immediately.
That's quite true. I've seen mice live for a few seconds after hearing the trap go off. Fortunately, now that it's warming up, mice are more likely to stay out of houses, which work well for everyone! :-)
