I based this one on Rudy, a dachshund hound I once knew. And, yes, after gulping down a slice of cheese with a pill hidden within, he dropped the pill on the kitchen floor! Other dogs, however, need no tricks. They will gladly wolf down the pill (and anything else edible!).

Not meaning to be a noodge, but give Fido ham and there will be no worry about any future heartworm.

AFC - Ten Things You Should Never Give Your Pet
Ham and other salty meats and foods are very dangerous to pets. In addition to being high in fat, they are also very salty which can cause serious stomach ache or pancreatitis. Also, large breeds of dogs that eat salty food may drink too much water and develop a life-threatening condition called "bloat."

Good advice! :-) I actually don't let my pets eat any "people food", and no more ham will be given to Fido henceforth.

Very salty stuff is unhealthy for people, too, it's causing high blood pressure.

One might wonder why humans outright crave unhealthy stuff.
